In a large saucepan put the onion lentils veggie stock the salt and pepper and simmer about 30 minutes or until the lentils have really softened and somewhat disintegrated.

Warm over low heat until the oil is hot but not smoking. Heat the vegetable oil in a pan and add the spices. In a saucepan on low heat cook the onion and the cumin seeds in oil.
