Christmas Recipes Gingerbread Cookies
I ve included a simple cookie icing below but you could also use my royal icing recipe and see my tips for decorating using royal icing.
Christmas recipes gingerbread cookies. Sift flour ginger cinnamon cloves nutmeg baking soda and salt together. Halve the dough leave the one half in the fridge. Gradually add flour mixture to make a soft dough.
Bake until slightly puffed and set 9 to 10 minutes depending on the size of your cookie cutters. Preheat your oven to 180 c fan forced or 200 c conventional. Bake for 10 12 minutes until the edges become golden brown.
Let cool on baking. Beat in molasses and egg. Preheat oven to 350 f.
Line an oven tray with baking paper. Add the egg then beat through all of the remaining dry ingredients apart from the caster sugar. Heat the oven to 200c 180c fan gas 4.
Beyond the icing you can use sprinkles color your icing or use little candies for adding eyes buttons or other decorations. There are endless options for decorating gingerbread cookies. Then take your favourite cookie cutter and shape it out the dough.
On a floured surface roll out the other half to 1 1 5cm thick and cut out your cookies reroll the scraps to use all the dough. Cut out gingerbread men with a 3 wide cutter and transfer to baking sheets. Beat butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
